We all know, to some degree, the importance of eating a balanced, healthy diet. What we don't always realize is how the food we ingest is put to work internally. Without making you yawn with scientific details about how food is digested, let's just skip to the basics. Glygogen is a form of glucose that serves as energy storage and is the body's predominant source of energy during moderate to high-intensity exertion. The main thing you need to know?
Ever felt like running just wasn't your thing? Been a runner for years and wonder how others seem to float along while you are pounding the pavement? Do you constantly deal with overuse injuries when you try to run? We can help! Dr. Dukes offers Enhance Running group clinics and on-on-one technique sessions for those looking to dig into the inefficiencies of their gait and to improve their overall running form.
We often get questions at our office about insurance coverage for chiropractic care. Here at Body In Motion we're not currently "in-network" for any private insurance plans; however, that doesn't mean that you can't take advantage of health savings programs to cover the cost of your care. Many insurance plans and coverage programs these days either include or are eligible to be linked with a Health Savings Account, or HSA. Recently, we sat down with Joel Lee from HealthMarkets to find out more about how you can make the most of your health savings dollars.
Have you ever wanted to be the star of your own highlight reel? Maybe not, but when it comes to learning new exercises or stretches, we wanted to find a way for our patients to have something more reliable than our lackluster stick-figure drawing skills. Spark Motion provides us with the video technology to help our patients continue their rehabilitation at home.
Contrary to popular belief, we didn't just pick this tape for the designs. At Body in Motion we use Dynamic Tape because it truly is the best functional tape on the market. The tape itself is made up of a stretchy blend of lycra and nylon, compared with that of traditional kinesiology tapes that are primarily made of cotton. These materials allow for a 4-way stretch in all directions instead of only two. Dynamic Tape can also stretch to 200% of its resting length and has many times the resistance and recoil of traditional K-tape products.
Have you ever had to deal with the pain of tennis elbow? How about shin splints, or the dreaded sciatica? Many times people with these conditions think that they just have to wait it out, take some medications and avoid any activities that cause the pain. Fortunately for the patients at Body In Motion; however, we utilize a therapy known as Active Release Technique (ART) that helps us quickly and effectively treat these conditions and get you back in action with minimal down time.
If you've been to a chiropractor who does a lot of soft tissue work, you might have noticed a tray of oddly shaped instruments made of either metal or bone lying around. Have you ever wondered what those crazy looking things are for? At Body in Motion we utilize a set of tools for a treatment technique called Graston. The Graston Technique, combined with the principles taught in the FAKTR Method help us treat soft tissue disorders like plantar fasciitis, IT-Band Syndrome, shin splints and many more.
Our main goal at Body In Motion is to have your leave our office feeling and moving better than when you arrived; however, as much as we rely on the power of the chiropractic adjustment, we are well aware that to provide complete and efficient care for every patient, we need more than that in our arsenal. One of the tools that we use quite a bit is called Advanced Muscle Integration Technique, or AMIT. This method helps us identify muscular instabilities in your body that could potentially lead to injury.
With each new year, people everywhere make resolutions: loose some weight, meditate more, become a better cook, read more books. What do each of these resolutions have in common? Each one is unquantifiable. None of them include the most important part - steps or measures we can take to achieve them. By creating resolutions that are both quantifiable and schedule-bound, we are able to set ourselves up for success instead of failure.
One of the best parts of the fall season are the flavors that come along with it. Pumpkin spice, apple pie, pecan topping, butternut squash soup; so many comfort foods come to mind with this cooler weather. Just because the days are getting shorter and cooler, though, doesn't mean that you have to sacrifice your diet and protein intake! Many fall foods can incorporate some of the Vital Proteins products that Body In Motion now carries.
For anyone who has ever tried protein powder, you may or may not be aware that most versions tend to have multiple additives that are completely unnecessary for your recovery and/or overall health. Ingredients such as artificial flavoring, soy protein isolate, carrageenan, rGBH, heavy metals, and sweeteners are some major additives to avoid in general, and unfortunately many protein shakes or powders include these substances within their long lists of ingredients. The perfect answer? Eat a meal that is high in protein and contains high glycemic carbohydrates fifteen to thirty minutes after every workout. Realistically though, that isn't always the easiest or most convenient option. Luckily, we have done the hard work for you and have found a better product.
Here at Body In Motion we are all about health and wellness. Sometimes though, health and wellness can go beyond how your body is moving. Essential oils can be utilized in numerous ways in order to support your overall well being, and at Body In Motion we couldn't agree more. We are excited to announce and promote "Pain Be Gone" an essential oil blend created exclusively for Body In Motion by Cindy Saylor, an essential oil specialist. Before we explain the blend created for us, though, let's explain a little bit about BARE essential oils, where they come from, and why this blend may be just right for you.
Everyone's talking about CBD oil (cannabidiol), but what exactly are the benefits? Does it make you feel "high"? Does it even work? Do I need a medical marijuana card in order to get it? Luckily, now that Body In Motion carries Elixinol CBD Hemp Oil Supplements, we can answer some of your questions about CBD and give you the proper information to see if this supplement is right for you.
One of the sports that we get a lot of questions about this time of year is golfing. While we will never claim to be pros when it comes to swing and shot selection, we do know a thing or two about the joints involved and how to keep them moving in an efficient manner.
Dr. Dukes put together a quick video tutorial for one of the warm-up activities that we recommend to a lot of the golfers that we see at our office.
As Colorado residents we're always very proud of the fact that we're one of the most active areas in the country. We have abundant opportunities at our doorstep to get outside and run, bike or climb in pretty much any direction we choose. The other advantage that we're now seeing come into full bloom is the boom of fitness and training options available to us in the front range. From high-intensity interval training classes, spin classes and climbing gyms to yoga, pilates and barre fitness studios there is an option on seemingly every block to keep us moving without ever having to battle I-70 traffic to the mountains.
We are excited to announce that through our Denver Chiropractic office we have recently partnered with Emerson Ecologics to provide you a personalized portal to order high quality nutritional and health supplements. Through the link on our online store page you can now create an account and access their full inventory of products. By linking through our site, we are also able to pass on a 10% savings off of the suggested retail prices to all of our patients.
It's that time of year to reach out and share the gifts we've been given with those around us. This year we have decided to support Metro Caring. As Denver's leading hunger-relief organization, Metro Caring meets people's immediate need for food while also addressing the root causes of hunger and poverty. With their educational programs they work to not only provide food, but also to improve the health and self-sufficiency of everyone who comes through their doors.
Though the weather in Colorado is never predictable, the falling leaves are one integral part of the fall season that even we can’t escape. If you are lucky enough to live somewhere that you have a yard, you inevitably will have to rake leaves at some point this season (after this snow melts!). As much as we love to see you in our office, we’d prefer you to be safe and smart with your activities, so follow these easy tips to make sure to protect your back.
