Active Release Technique

Have you ever had to deal with the pain of tennis elbow? How about shin splints, or the dreaded sciatica? Many times people with these conditions think that they just have to wait it out, take some medications and avoid any activities that cause the pain. Fortunately for the patients at Body In Motion; however, we utilize a therapy known as Active Release Technique (ART) that helps us quickly and effectively treat these conditions and get you back in action with minimal down time.

ART is a state of the art soft tissue system and movement-based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Almost any condition that is the result of injured or overused muscles can benefit from ART.

Even though they are often lumped in the category of "sports injuries" anyone can fall victim to overuse conditions. These occur when muscle tissues are torn, pulled or over-exerted. No matter the reason, each of these factors can cause scar tissue to build up and tie down tissues that should be moving freely. A scar tissue builds, it can even cause nerves to become trapped. If or when this happens, it can cause numbness, tingling, weakness, reduced range of motion and pain.

At Body in Motion we utilize the ART treatment standards and protocols when working towards eliminating these symptoms. After evaluating the texture, tightness and movement of the tissues, any abnormalities are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements. By treating the tissues while they are moving, we are able to drastically decrease recovery time and get patients back to the activities they love with much less risk of re-injury.

The ART treatment protocols cover more than 500 specific movements and tissues. This expansive library of tools allows us to identify and correct the issues at hand in a way that is individualized for every given patient.

If you are suffering from an overuse injury and feel that treatment with ART might be right for you, please give us a call and we'll get you in and back on the right track today!
